Melb Cup

Remember November?

On the first Tuesday of the month, we held our second Melbourne Cup day at the Cellar Door. Mother Nature turned on a beautiful warm day and approximately 100 guests came dressed up and ready to enjoy themselves. We decked out our booths with an array of race day themed styling, the centrepiece being an ice bowl filled up with Caudo beverages. Guests were greeted with champagne and hors d’oeuvres on arrival and then were served up an exquisite three-course luncheon by Salt & Pepper catering. We had the big screen broadcasting the race with the Murray River providing a beautiful backdrop. Sweepstakes were run throughout the day with some happy punters leaving a bit better off!

We had various live musicians entertain us at the Cellar Door during the month- community band Random Notes,
acoustic duo Nick & Tash and acoustic soul Joe Amputech, who all mesmerized our crowds with their talented voices and musical skills.

Our very own Pizza Extraordinaire took part in the 15th Novita Mighty River Run, which saw over 160 people stop in at the Cellar Door for a pizza and paella dinner in the evening. The boats began their run at Mannum this year and finished at Berri. Novita makes a positive difference in the lives of people with disabilities. The run raises money for life-changing development, rehabilitation and disability services to kids, teens and adults and their families. Overall the River Run raised an incredible $650,000- the highest total since its inception – well done to all the organisers and participants.

The Cellar Door has been busy with lots of Christmas party bookings for both small and larger groups wanting to celebrate their successful, albeit a bit stressful, year. Lots of fun times are being had on the banks of the mighty Murray River.

We introduced our two new white varietals- our 2021 Verdelho and 2021 Chardonnay, featuring fresh and classy updated bottle labels. Our Verdelho is a crisp, fresh and a glass of well balanced wine with lovely citrus notes. Our Chardonnay, picked from our Peace block, is full flavoured with forwarding tropical fruit characters. These are both now available for purchase on our website. In addition to these wines, we’ve added another beer to our menu – the thirst-quenching Byron Bay
lagers are proving to be very popular.

Unusually high rainfall has begun, and thanks to La Nina is expected to continue throughout the summer. It has been interesting to note how the Murray River has risen so significantly already and with more water to come down, will we see another flood like 2016?

Another beautiful month in the Riverland done and dusted, we now turn to look forward to a fun and sangria-soaked festive summer season!

Regretfully due to the damage we received to our grounds and buildings from the 2022 River Murray floods, our Cellar door is now PERMANENTLY CLOSED.

But don’t be dismayed….
