Our Cellar Door festivities typically kick off in March with the excitement of celebrating the start of Autumn. The
Autumn months bring the end of day light savings here in South Australia. But even as the days fall shorter and the evenings become cooler, there is no shortage of festivities here at Caudo Vineyard with the March Long Weekend, Easter, School Holidays and Mothers Day.
The alluring autumn colours transcend from vibrant green to burgundy reds, pinks and purples throughout the gar-dens surrounding the Cellar Door, Mother Nature is the real Rockstar here.
March Long Weekend was our first big weekend of the season. Saturday and Sunday were both equally busy days here at our humble Cellar Door. We regularly have live entertainment for our event weekends where we bring in local talented acts or musicians from Adelaide and even from interstate.
This March we had the pleasure of having the talented and trendy Soul Trader filling the atmosphere of the Cellar Door with his acoustic chilled vibes, perfect for an afternoon spent by the Riverside.
Our visitors are a mix of locals, families, ski boaters, house boaters, frequent campers and caravaners alike, The free camping grounds at Hogwash Bend Reserve has been a very popular spot for many years for people to pull up and stay over for the week or just a weekend. It is the perfect place to surround yourself with friends, family, nature and to soak up the beautiful views of the River Murray right at your feet. And the best part is, its located just a 4 minute drive from our venue.
Unfortunately, March also brought the harsh news and reality of Covid-19. We were lucky enough to have cele-brated March Long Weekend just in time, but sadly our Caudo Cellar Door had to close, and cease operations on the 24th of March for the safety and welfare of our staff and visitors. This also included our monthly visits from the beautiful PS Murray Princess, who bring visitors from all parts of Australia and around the world.
This was a hard pill to swallow for our team to close our doors, as we have a very unique lifestyle and work envi-ronment that we all love to share with our guests. The reality of the Pandemic happening globally was a shock to the system, but the safety and wellbeing of our team, our visitors and the community was and always will be our top priority and we have been closely monitoring Government Health Officials advice.
Fortunately with the motivation and cooperation of other Breweries and Cellar Doors alike, we were relieved with the news from the Government that we could once again be open and operate for takeaway drinks and food. For the month of April we were open on the weekends offering our delicious wood oven pizzas and wines as takeaways for our locals to enjoy.
Easter 2020 was a very quiet one indeed, not what the crew here are used to, as well as everyone stuck at home. Staying home and keeping safe was at the top of the list this Easter. Travelling and camping by the river with the family and friends was a luxury missed by everyone this year.
Everyone here at Caudo Vineyard is so very grateful for the support and understanding throughout these uncertain times. Our crew can’t wait to be welcoming all our visitors back very soon.
