True Grit2

MAD ABOUT MAY

May has seen cool, crisp days set in over the Riverland. Our patrons have spent their mornings at Caudo cozied up with a blanket, hot coffees in hand overlooking the glassy water, and afternoons soaking up the sunshine with glasses of Sangria.

Earlier this month, the Austin Healey Owners club visited us in an array of polished vintage reds and blues. Passionate owners shared stories of their classic cars and snapped photos of the convoy lined up against the river. The club travelled from Western Australia.

Every year, the Caudo property transforms for a weekend to hold True Grit, a 13km military-inspired obstacle course. This year, it took place on Mother’s Day weekend. Caudo is proud to be the South Australia course location of choice for the ninth year in a row. The annual event attracts competitors from across South Australia and beyond and saw over 2000 individuals take part. The race began with fire cannons sending streams of fire into the sky. The first “elite” group raced for glory, and regular heats from then on had participants racing against the clock and themselves. The varying terrain provided a diverse range of challenges, with runners traversing through our vineyards, sand dunes, mud, and scrub to complete the course. Covered in dirt, mud, and sand, eager competitors finished the gruelling track with lots of laughs, flying down a slide into the river. At the finish line, they were greeted with celebratory shots of Caudo Sangria and relaxed by the water.

After plenty of requests for sweets to complement our coffees, or as a post pizza treat, we were excited to introduce a new dessert cabinet stocking Rose & Co Bakery goodies, including coconut cream/ chocolate vanilla cannolis, red velvet cupcakes, triple choc mud cake, raspberry ripple cheesecake, passionfruit mousse, brownies, and gluten-free blueberry muffins. The perfect addition to a morning or afternoon tea whiled away by the riverside.

May has been a packed month, and we have enjoyed every moment of it, and are looking forward to cosy catch-ups with friends and family as winter approaches. We will see you here to soak up the river views soon!
