What’s the BUZZ on the MUZZ???

Spring has definitely sprung. The birds, bees and the roo’s are out in force to prove it! Get out on the river in the early morning this time of year, you will see amazing things. So still, it sounds like you hear thousands of different birds and animals.

We are very excited at the arrivals of new season bee hives to the citrus block.  We are currently prepping a few of our own broods of bees. These will be for our Flow Hive (www.honeyflow.com) arrival in mid-December. These will be a great addition and hopefully very soon you will be seeing some fresh unprocessed natural honey straight from the hive on your platters!

What’s happening at the Cellar door?

The cellar door has been getting busy on weekends, especially since the gorgeous weather rolled in. As always our delicious tasting platters and ‘cook yourself BBQs’ are on for lunch this weekend. The perfect weather conditions call for a day relaxing by the Murray river while enjoying a cold beer or glass of Caudo Sangria. Allow yourself the entire day as you will get lost in the scenic view and you won’t want to leave.

PIZZA!!

Last weekend we had a trial cooking traditional wood fired pizzas. The response was overwhelming so they will be available on weekends. We would like to welcome you to the newest member of the team. The biggest Carp Champion 2014…..Mr Steve Matschoss! He will be making sure he is cooking the best pizza in the Riverland this weekend, serenading every single one!

This year has just flown by and we are already in mid-September. It’s only a hop, skip and a jump away from Christmas. We have done the hard work for you and have organised a Christmas work party that is easy and enjoyable. Friday the 11th of December is “The Jolly Rumbler Christmas Show” between 6-10pm. Enjoy our charcoal roast spit chicken and lamb, live entertainment and free drinks for the first hour! $50 per head. Bookings essential. Email Jasmine at events@caudo.com.au for more details.

Weekend Weather Forecast

It will be fine and sunny heading into the weekend. We will see temperatures above 20 degrees again with a chance of some light winds. What a perfect weekend to be outdoors. Leave the jumper at home and consider wearing something lightweight and comfy. If you are heading out this weekend, pack some sunscreen and a hat as the UV index is moderate to high in the Riverland.

Spring Clearance Sale!

The Sentinels 2011 Hogwash Bend Shiraz is flying out the Cellar Door at the moment for $35 a case. Yes, that’s 12 bottles of red for $35!! We know they won’t last long at that price so be quick to grab some. Aged well and great to drink right now.

What’s happening this weekend in the Riverland?

The Riverland Field Days is on this Friday and Saturday at the Field Days Site – just off the Sturt Highway in Barmera. With over 350 exhibitors and approximately 30 caterers there is something for the whole family. The field days include the latest in agricultural machinery, equipment and services, demonstrations, activities, entertainment, tastings, trade exhibits and much more. Admission Adults $15. Students under 18 and children are free.

Players, coaches, supporters, sponsors and volunteers are invited to the Waikerie Football club Friday 18th at 6.30pm for Presentation night. $40 entry at the door including 3 course tea. Or pre purchase tickets at Walk on Water for $30.

Riverland Farmers’ Market in Berri on Saturday between 7.30-11.30am. Local producers sell directly to the public. Grab a hot breakfast and check out the locally produced craft that will be available also.

Rosie Clark’s School of Ballet Concert at Chaffey Theatre, Renmark. An exciting evening for 240 local talented students to perform their year long hard work and dedication.

Murray River Warning

Please be careful if you are on the river this weekend. We have a shallow water warning for you on the upper river side of Hogwash Bend. If you are in this area please keep to the outside of the bend.

Fun River Fact

Paddle steamers were used to carry wool, wheat, and other goods up and down the river system including the Murray, Darling and Murrumbidgee Rivers. Since settlement of the river basin was so late, the invention of the railroad came much sooner in the life of settlement of the river, meaning that the river didn’t ever really find itself a booming source of trade.

 Caudo Vineyard History Fact

THE SENTINELS (The three trees in front of the homestead.)

Over the years the three trees have become a recognized icon of the vineyard from the river known as The Sentinels. Paddle steamers cruising up and down the River Murray regularly tied up here to offer trade of food and clothes in return for wood for fuel. It has provided shade, protection for livestock a home for native birds and a timeline where throughout its history each family has recorded the flood levels since 1902. The Caudo family adding to the tradition by marking the 1991 and 1993 and 2011 floods. We even named the Hogwash Bend Shiraz after them!
